TRAVELLING TO OXFORD (Updated Sep 13, 2022)

Air Travel

The best airports to travel into for access to Oxford are London Heathrow or Birmingham

From London Heathrow and Gatwick airports, take The Airline Coach Service, which runs 24 hours a day. We highly recommend this option - it's quick and very comfortable with wifi on-board and luggage storage. Follow signs to the coach service and look for "The Airline" to Oxford. We highly recommend this service over "National Express" as this is direct.

You can also get a train from Heathrow via London, and from Gatwick via Reading. There is however no direct service to Oxford. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS OPTION FROM HEATHROW.

From Birmingham Airport, take the direct train from Birmingham Airport to Oxford. There is also a direct bus which runs from the Airport to Gloucester Green operated by National Express. From Birmingham Airport, we recommend the train service for convenience.

From London Stansted airport, take the Stansted Express train service to London Liverpool Street and then take the tube to either Paddington or Marylebone for direct trains to Oxford. Please read the "Trains" section below, as this applies for journeys from Stansted via Marylebone. Alternatively there is a National Express 737 coach service

Trains

TRAINS ARE EXPECTED TO RUN NORMAL SCHEDULES, BUT EXPECT CONGESTION ON JOURNEYS ESPECIALLY TO-AND-FROM CENTRAL LONDON (LONDON MARYLEBONE AND PADDINGTON), BECAUSE OF THE FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH II.

From London

Direct services run from London Paddington (serving Oxford station) and London Marylebone (serving Oxford and Oxford Parkway stations). Both stations are equally accessible to Wolfson and almost equidistant, so there is no preference for one over the other.

FROM OXFORD PARKWAY, YOU CAN TAKE BUSES TO CENTRAL OXFORD, INCLUDING THE PARK-AND-RIDE. THE CLOSEST STOP TO WOLFSON COLLEGE AND THE BEST WESTERN IS LINTON ROAD (S-BOUND). THE COLLEGE IS AT THE END OF LINTON ROAD, AND YOU WILL SEE THE BEST WESTERN AS YOU WALK DOWN THE ROAD. IF YOU HAVE HEAVY LUGGAGE YOU CAN ALSO GET A TAXI FROM BOTH STATIONS.

We have been made aware that because of scheduled construction, the route from Paddington to Oxford might have coach (i.e. bus) travel for part of the way. Whilst this should be seamless, you may prefer to take the Marylebone-Oxford route so you do not have to leave the train and board a bus midway.

Other Services

Other services operate from the north via Birmingham New Street; from the south via Reading; and from the west via Didcot or Reading.

For details and to plan your journey visit National Rail Enquiries.

From either station, please use Google Maps or the University's interactive map to find your way from the station to Wolfson College, or other parts of the University you would like to visit.

Coaches

FROM CENTRAL LONDON

The Oxford Tube offers a direct service between Oxford and London, running a frequent timetable on a virtually 24-hour basis, Monday to Sunday.

For information on coaches from other major cities and airports, contact National Express

The central coach station is at Gloucester Green in the city centre. Please use Google Maps or the University's interactive map to find your way from the station to Wolfson College, or other parts of the University you would like to visit.
